Synopsis

FAILED DRAG is an experimental video shot without a camera, grabbing high resolution images of the performer on a flat bed scanner. Using a screen capturing software these images were converted into quicktime movies by recording video that follows the motion of the mouse, creating a very jagged and rough set of clips.

The images are very small details of the face of a man in Drag magnified by using the scanner as a microscope. The age of the man is revealed, the wrinkles, the zits, the beard, the lipstick, the non-manicured nails, exploring the identity of someone who realizes that time is actually passing by, and no matter how much make up one uses, time does not go backwards.

This project is a study about gender identity, beauty standards and aesthetic roles that prevail in a conservative and traditional society that still denies the rights of homosexuals. These images - almost microscopic - reveal the artist's fragility and vulnerability and they are also part of the FAILED DRAG PRINT SERIES in large format.

Sinopsis

DRAG FALLIDO es la continuación del proyecto de impresiones HEAL/SANAR. El video se grabó sin ninguna cámara, capturando imágenes en alta resolución en un escáner de mesa. Estas imágenes se convirtieron luego en videos digitales usando un programa de captura de pantalla, siguiendo los movimientos del ratón, generando unos videos movidos e inestables.

Las imágenes son detalles de la cara y las manos de un hombre en Drag, en donde unos mínimos rasgos se magnifican al usar el escáner como un microscopio. La edad de este hombre se revela, las arrugas, los granos, la barba, el colorete, las uñas sin manicure, explorando la identidad de alguien que se da cuenta que el tiempo de verdad no se detiene, a pesar de todo lo que se haga.

Es también un estudio sobre la identidad de género, los estándares de belleza y los roles estéticos que se tienen en una sociedad conservadora y tradicional que todavía está negando los derechos de los homosexuales. A través de estas imágenes casi microscópicas se revela la fragilidad y vulnerabilidad del artista.
